macOS Sonoma 14.2 – What’s New?

macOS Sonoma 14.2 is now Available!

UPDATED: 12/13/23

This article will be continually updated as new information comes in.

Apple just released macOS Sonoma’s 2nd major release update to the public! Let’s jump in and find out what’s new.

NOTE #1 for OCLP Unsupported Mac Users: The OCLP 1.3.0 Update is live. The update is REQUIRED before you install the Sonoma 14.2 update if your Mac has an Intel Ivy Bridge, Haswell iGPU or Nvidia Kepler dGPU!

NOTE #2 : Sonoma 14.2 and Ventura 13.6.3 updates are now a universal. That means they unify all Mac hardware models into one build, including the new M3’s. The previous 2 updates were split into two separate build versions.

Apple has released the full installer for macOS Sonoma. I list all the of the Full installers in the link below.

8. Apple Silicon OS loader Version (iBoot)

OS Loader Version (iBoot) also referred to as “iBoot second-stage loader”, is Apple’s stage 2 bootloader. The OS loader version will be the same as the “System Firmware Version” on the latest OS. On previous versions of macOS Monterey and Big Sur, the OS loader version will be a version behind. Example = Monterey = 7459.121.3 & Big Sur = 6723.140.2

11. What’s new for Enterprise in macOS Sonoma

Enterprise changes in macOS Sonoma

  • The login password is correctly accepted at the Lock Screen when MDM has configured the login window to hide admin users.
  • Devices no longer fail to complete extensible SSO authentication that requires multiple steps.
  • Declarative software updates install by the enforced date when a Mac computer is asleep.
  • An exclamation point is no longer shown under managed Login Items in System Settings.
  • Home no longer prompts for location access after updating.

13. macOS Sonoma Release Notes

macOS Sonoma 14.2

This update introduces enhanced Autofill for PDFs and improvements to Messages and Weather. This release also includes other features, bug fixes, and security updates for your Mac.

PDFs

  • Enhanced AutoFill identifies fields in PDFs and other forms enabling you to populate them with information such as names and addresses from your contacts

Messages

  • Catch-up arrow lets you easily jump to your first unread message in a conversation by clicking the arrow visible in the top-right corner
  • Add sticker option in the context menu lets you add a sticker directly to a bubble
  • Contact Key Verification provides automatic alerts and Contact Verification Codes to help verify people facing extraordinary digital threats are messaging only with the people they intend

Weather

  • Precipitation amounts help you stay on top of rain and snow conditions for a given day over the next 10 days
  • New widgets let you choose from next-hour precipitation, daily forecast, sunrise and sunset times, and current conditions such as Air Quality, Feels Like, and wind speed
  • Wind map snapshot helps you quickly assess wind patterns and access the animated wind map overlay to prepare for forecasted wind conditions for the next 24 hours

Clock

  • Multiple timers let you run several timers simultaneously and create a name for each timer
  • Timer presets help you quickly start a timer with a range of preset options
  • Recents makes it easy to restart your recently used timers

This update also includes the following new features:

  • Favorite Songs Playlist in Apple Music lets you quickly get back to the songs you mark as favorites
  • Use Listening History in Apple Music can be disabled in a Focus so music you listen to does not appear in Recently Played or influence your recommendations
  • Shazam Music Recognition allows you to quickly identify songs playing online or around you, even when wearing AirPods
  • New keyboard layouts provide support for 7 additional Sámi languages
