UPDATE: I added links to the bottom of this article that will let you run a script to find your 2015 Mbp’s.
In some 15-inch Mid 2015 MacBook Pro units, the battery may overheat and pose a fire safety risk.
If you have a Mid 2015 15″ MacBook Pro, you need to check the serial number against Apple’s Battery Recall Database ASAP! Affected models are as follows.
- MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)
- MacBookPro11,4 (2.2 GHz)
- MacBookPro11,5 (2.5 and 2.8 GHz)
- From September 2015 and February 2017
Apple’s Recall Check Website
As soon as the press release was sent out this afternoon a new recall check website was launched so you can check to see if your 2015 MacBook Pro is affected.
You can then enter in your serial number to check if your Mac is affected.
As you can see above this MacBook Pro has a battery that “may pose a fire safety risk”. You need to get this MacBook Pro into service ASAP.
Replacement Process
Choose one of the service options below to have your battery replaced. In all cases, your device will be sent to an Apple Repair Center for service. Your MacBook Pro will be examined prior to any service to verify that it is eligible for this program. Service may take 1-2 weeks.
- Find an Apple Authorized Service Provider.
- Make an appointment at an Apple Retail Store.
- Contact Apple Support to arrange mail-in service via the Apple Repair Center.

What do I do if my company or EDU has HUNDREDS of 2015 Macbook Pros to check?
I have good news for you! I have reached out to my Apple Account Mangers and they let me know that you can send them a list of serial numbers. They will then check the list against the battery recall database and return you the findings.
