Today, Apple released macOS Golden Gate to all users. The update is now available for compatible Macs through Software Update in System Settings.
Apple has provided an official list of changes included in macOS Golden Gate. However, additional system-level changes and improvements may still be discovered through testing, system analysis, and comparisons between builds.

1. OCLP for Unsupported Macs Warning
OpenCore Legacy Patcher is not compatible with macOS Golden Gate and macOS Tahoe. Make sure you go into System Settings > Software Update and TURN OFF Download Updates & Install macOS Updates.
2. Should You Install macOS Golden Gate Beta?
Most users can now install the public release of macOS Golden Gate on a compatible Mac. However, before upgrading your main Mac, confirm that your essential apps, accessories, and professional tools are compatible.
Always create a full backup before installing a major macOS update. I recommend having two types of backups:
- A complete Time Machine backup
- A separate copy of your important files and apps
This might seem excessive, but trust me, it will be worth it if something goes wrong!
MacAdmins, developers, and advanced users should test app compatibility, MDM enrollment, security tools, VPN clients, printers, FileVault workflows, software update behavior, and deployment processes before rolling out macOS Golden Gate across their organizations.

Apple has released the public version of macOS Golden Gate 27.
New Features & Changes
Liquid Glass Design Updates
macOS Golden Gate brings a more polished Liquid Glass design with better readability, improved contrast, more consistent toolbars, edge-to-edge sidebars, updated window shapes, and refreshed menu bar icons. Apple has also added a new slider that lets you adjust the Liquid Glass look from very clear to fully tinted.
Performance Improvements
Apple says the system should feel faster overall, with quicker AirDrop transfers, faster network file browsing, faster Safari start page loading, improved Mail search ranking, and better Spotlight search suggestions.
Siri AI on Mac
The biggest new feature is Siri AI on Mac. Siri can now answer more natural questions, understand personal context, take actions inside apps, work from Spotlight, and live inside a new dedicated Siri app for longer conversations.
Visual Intelligence
Visual Intelligence is also coming to the Mac, letting you ask questions about what’s on your screen and get help based on the content you’re looking at.
Writing Tools & Apple Intelligence
Golden Gate expands Writing Tools with Siri, adds better AI photo editing, improves Image Playground, and lets you create Shortcuts from plain-language descriptions.
Safari & Passwords
Safari gets smarter tab grouping, page-change alerts, and faster start page loading. Apple is also adding one-click password fixes to help update weak or reused passwords more easily.
Family, Safety & Accessibility
Golden Gate includes stronger child safety controls, improved Screen Time features, and new accessibility improvements across the system.

8. Apple Silicon macOS Golden Gate IPSW Restore File
An IPSW restore file is mainly used to restore or revive Apple Silicon Macs with Apple Configurator, Finder, or another Mac.
Most users do not need the IPSW file for normal macOS updates. IPSW files are intended for restores, revives, troubleshooting, clean installs, and testing workflows.

Update Size Information
The delta update & upgrade size will automatically change in size for exactly what your macOS version needs. For example the smallest update size will be from Beta 3 to Beta 4. But if you are upgrading from Beta 1 to Beta 4, the upgrade size will need to include all the fixes in Beta 2 and 3.

Experience the new Siri AI
Introducing Siri AI, an entirely new version of Siri powered by Apple Intelligence that’s more personal, more capable, and more conversational. It is integrated into Spotlight, so you can search for answers about almost any topic right from where you already search for things across your system. It can draw on personal context to find things across your messages, mail, photos, and more. And it can get things done across your apps, just by asking. Revisit and resume past conversations in the new dedicated Siri app, synced with iCloud across your Apple devices. Siri AI is rolling out to users, and you can get started by turning it on in Settings.
Take action on what’s onscreen
With Visual Intelligence, you can select a window of your screen and Siri can answer questions or take action with what’s onscreen, like adding events to your calendar. You can access Visual Intelligence with a dedicated keyboard shortcut: Shift–Command–Space bar.
Powerful new ways to edit photos
Use intelligent photo editing tools to reframe a photo after it’s been taken with Spatial Reframing or expand your shot with the Extend tool. And enhancements to Clean Up let you remove distractions with better quality and more realistic infill, even when the scene is complex.
New tools to browse in Safari
Automatically group your tabs into topics, so related pages are easier to find. With Notify Me, Safari can monitor pages for changes like price drops or restocks and alert you when it’s time to act. Describe an Extension lets you use natural language to create custom extensions, like adding a button to save your favorite recipes.
Easily create Shortcuts using natural language
With Describe a Shortcut, you can automate daily tasks with a simple description and all of the required steps are assembled on your behalf. For example, you can describe a shortcut to automatically text your partner when you’re headed home from work with an estimated arrival time based on traffic.
Even more refined design
Updates to Liquid Glass improve readability, and a new slider lets you customize how it looks, from ultra-clear to fully tinted. Uniform toolbars, edge-to-edge sidebars, and more detailed app icons further elevate the design.
New child safety features
Powerful new parental controls help parents more easily manage what content their children can see, who they can communicate with, and when they have access to apps. Ask to Browse requires kids to request permission before visiting any new website in Safari. Communication Safety expands its protections to help keep conversations safe. Time Allowances gives parents more flexible ways to manage the time kids spend in apps across categories, and offers guidance based on expert research that’s tailored to a child’s age. Schedules help manage which apps kids have access to at different times of the day and across the week.
A more responsive and delightful experience
An expansive set of improvements makes your Mac even faster, more reliable, and easier to use. Better search in Spotlight and Mail helps you find what you’re looking for with greater ease. AirDrop Transfers and network file browsing happen faster. And many more improvements make your day-to-day use more enjoyable.
15. What’s new in Enterprise for macOS 27
Device management
- Device management can manage which apps or binaries are allowed to run.
- Device management can configure a consolidated consent prompt for users to grant an app or website the necessary default privacy permissions.
- Platform SSO can be configured to authenticate with your identify provider using OpenID at FileVault unlock, the Lock Screen, and at the login window. This supports multi-step and multi-factor authentication flows as well as QR code sign-in.
- Additional enhancements for Platform SSO include network controls and captive network support at login or unlock, options to require Touch ID or Apple Watch at login or unlock, and FileVault support for Authenticated Guest mode.
- On devices with iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, and tvOS 27, log collection required as part of an AppleCare ticket can be started remotely on supervised devices using device management.
- New network configurations are available in declarative device management including VPN, DNS, and relay.
- New reporting options are available for content caching using declarative device management.
- The ManagedApp framework is now available on macOS.
- Device management can restrict the use of Siri AI, Visual Intelligence, and Natural Language Calendar Event Editing.
- Device management can configure the desired behavior when a managed package is removed, ensuring unwanted data and files are not left behind on devices when no longer needed.
- New assessment mode features on macOS for education assessment will help app vendors manage standardized testing using Apple devices.
- ACME and SCEP credential asset declarations have new controls to configure whether the certificate credential is only available after first unlock.
- New status items are available that provide proactive information about a device, including the enrollment type, lockdown mode status, and when it is waiting in Setup Assistant for the device management service.
- Legacy MDM profiles can now be delivered as declarative assets.
- The new Liquid Glass setup pane can be skipped by device management.
- Reliability is improved when enrolling a Mac in a device management service for the first time during setup using Automated Device Enrollment.
- When applying the deprecated Accessibility key in the Privacy Preferences Policy Control payload, the user is shown a notification once for each configured app so they are aware the app can access their data, monitor their keyboard and websites, record their screen, and more. Additionally, the user can disable accessibility permissions granted by device management in System Settings.
- Legacy software update management no longer functions in all 27.0 operating systems. This includes: software update commands, software update queries, recommended cadence settings, and software update restrictions, like deferrals and Background Security Improvements. IT teams should use declarative software update management to configure and enforce updates on devices with increased user transparency and more control.
Bug fixes and other improvements
- The macOS menu bar dynamically adapts when there isn’t enough space to show every item. Menu bar items are hidden and replaced with a compact overflow indicator that surfaces the hidden items when pressed.
- App Attest is now available to verify the authenticity of Mac apps.
- The new
tccutil listcommand can report current privacy authorizations for specified services or apps on managed devices. Refer totccutil --infofor more information. - Apps can no longer access the local TCC database directly.
- If Rosetta was previously installed, it will not be automatically restored upon upgrading to macOS 27. Rosetta will continue as a general-purpose compatibility tool through macOS 27.
- File enumeration performance is improved for SMB directories with a large number of files.
- Resolved an issue where shared Mac computers may display a black screen after a user logs in.
