macOS Big Sur Final & Beta Full Installers
This database will contain download links for macOS Big Sur full Installer pkg files (InstallAssistant.pkg). This file is the same full installer that you would download directly from the App Store for Intel and Apple Silicon M1 Mac Computers. The InstallAssistant.pkg is stored on Apple’s servers and contains the full “Install macOS Big Sur.app”. Once downloaded, all you need to do is install the pkg and the full installer of Big Sur will be in your applications folder. This change was made when Apple revised the full installer for Big Sur. The InstallAssistant.pkg is not available for Catalina or Mojave.

InstallAssistant.pkg?
The InstallAssistant.pkg is just a standard package that includes the full macOS Big Sur installer.app. All the pkg does is install/move the app to your applications folder. Let’s take a closer look.
I am using SUS Inspector to view the full installer for macOS Big Sur 11.2.3. You can see the InstallAssistant.pkg file listed. You can also see the direct download path from Apple’s servers. The link does not last forever. For example, the download link for beta full installers only seem to last for a month or so.
Production links last a little longer. For example 11.2.1 is still available but 11.2 is not. This database will be updated when a new full installer is released.
Thank You
Have you sent over version information to me? THANK YOU!
A big thanks to Eric Holtam @eholtam. When I need to verify something in SUS, he always lends a hand!
Also thank you Hannes Juutilainen @hjuutilainen for creating SUS Inspector. This is a top 5 app for me!

MBP NOT OPENING BOOT PICKER 🙃 HELP!
Hi!
I have a MBP 15 mid 2012 (10,1) running Catalina and the built in display is not working – I use an external monitor via HDMI. (And the battery is dead, it shows 1% charge)
I’d like to upgrade to BigSur.
I prepared the USB drive following instructions on your last YouTube guide.
When I boot up holding the Option key the fans are spinning, but nothing happens, and the external display doesn’t show anything.
I tried hitting the left arrow twice, then return, then left once and return (like you do in the ULTIMATE GUIDE video) thinking the options would be “displayed” on the built in monitor. After a long while it boots normally.
I tried to select the startup disk in system preferences, but the USB drive is not there, it just show the internal ssd.
I then tried cleaning up my Mac with Onyx, resetting PRAM and SMC, to no avail…
IN SHORT: any suggestion on how to boot from the EFIBoot on the USB drive?
Or installing the EFIBoot on the internal SSD could do the trick? What potential issues would cause the latter?
Thanks
Which is the last installer version known to be working on a macBook Late 2008, 5.2?
the page of 11.6.1 rc is no opening

Cant seem to find the Patch Sur link, Github easy the page no longer exist…Is there any other link I van download the latest Patch Sur?

Hello!
I’m trying to download BiSur 11.3.1 but the download always stopped in 1,03GBs. Could you review the link? I need urgently these version for a customer.
I appreciated if you can help me.
Thank you so much for your work in this webpage.
Best!
Hello Santi, looks like the might have pulled it. You will have to use the internet archive for the 11.3.1 version.
Thank you for such detailed explanations on how to do this install, its crazy that machines that can still run so well are being forced into obsolescence. I have a MacPro 3.1 with an NVIDIA GTX680 graphics card running Mojave very nicely thanks to the DosDude patcher. I have been trying to install Big Sur (11.5.2) using OpenCore Legacy (2.4) onto a 1TB Samsung SSD and following your instructions. I get as far as the reboot following the big Sur install and then I get the apple logo on black with a progress bar that gets at about 40% and then just hangs. I’m guessing that one of the patcher settings needs to be changed but not sure which one. I have used the default settings of the patcher but am wondering if the NVIDIA card makes a difference. The machine also has upgraded airport card and bluetooth.

Did anyone try to install and patch
iMac 12,2
27″, i7(original i5), AMD 6970M1024
Seems I’m the only interested in updating to Big Sur, searched the net, but couldn’t find anyone yet who has done this to the 12,2 with the non-metall AMD 6970M grafic card
This is an productive system, so I don’t want to brick it, as I use it every day
Hi Mike, Prior to upgrading my gpu to a GTX-780m, I was using 11.2.3 and it was okay… but not suitable for a production machine. (i.e. Logic Pro X crashes randomly) Numerous graphics artifacts and undesirable behaviors were just a few things I could not live with. However; if you bite the bullet and upgrade your imac with an SSD, GPU, Wifi, and Ram this iMac becomes a beast! Upgrade that iMac! You won’t be disappointed, Montery runs smooth as butter! Good Luck!
Hello there! I have a 2012 Macbook Pro that I upgraded to Big Sur a few months ago. It always boots on the progress bar instead of the normal apple logo. How can I fix this?
I am using an M1 MacBook and by default the boot screen was always an Apple Logo with a progress bar, I think it might’ve been different in previous versions of macOS and that is why you might have a confusion. If this is not what you meant, please share a screenshot of your boot screen.
The open core terminal shows a different set of options because my MacBook Pro is 10,2 What are the setting needed to change to complete on your instructions for this model?
Thank you
Which version of OCLP are you using Omar?
Hi Guys, I want to help this community.
To the Admin. Maybe you can figure something out from this.
Prerequisites:
Sandisk 64 GB USB-the larger the storage cap and non-sandisk, the more prone to errors in patching, and I don’t know why.
OpenLegacyPatcher DOS version.
Patcher Sur.
11.15.2 image – 11.16 just doesn’t work regardless if it came from Apple or 3rd party servers. The USB installers just won’t complete to at least 90%.
System:
Macbook 6,1 2008
Steps:
1. Download the 11.15.2 using Terminal as shown in Open Legacy Patcher Website.
2. Use Patched Sur to create the bootable media.
EXPECT AN ERROR.
3. Use OpenLegacyPatcher DOS to patch and create the EFI on the USB. Do Settings Patch following their website’s settings, change mac model to supported BigSur models, build, then create to usb.
4. Reboot to USB EFI and choose Install Big Sur
5. Finish installation
6. Reboot to USB EFI and choose Install Big Sur
7. Do Post Patch.
8. Reboot USB EFI and choose the MAC OS
9. Once booted, use Software Update to run 11.6
EXPECT AN ERROR DURING REBOOT
10. Reboot to USB EFI and choose the MAC OS (HDD icon)
11. Finish the update and once booted run Open Legacy Patcher
12. Build and this time , install to HDD instead of USB. (This allows HDD to have its own EFI auto load or ELSE you will need USB EFI just to boot Sur EVERY TIME)
13. After Reboot, use Patched Sur GUI to do POST Patching in case 12 doesn’t work. Particularly, select moderately modify SMBIOS.
THE ONLY ISSUE is that regardless of the NVRAM resets, your DISPLAY PORT external monitors will not work. I don’t know why.
Tested 3x and worked. And I’m not sure why this is case. So Mr Macintosh, maybe you can figure this out and make 1 patcher that would incorporate your findings.
Will the latest 11.6 installer work with micro patcher 2.0?
Or do i need to use a specific Big Sur installer version to create the USB installer correctly.
2012 Mac Pro 5,1
When I download 11.6 its doing the same 32mb file after running the package as is 12 beta 7. Is there an
Issue with the Big Sur installer also?
Hi.
where is the list of compatible devices with this installation?
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211238
Thanks for the hard work
“Softwareupdate -d -r” works to get the version 11.6 InstallAssistant? I need to create a .pkg for MDM distribution.
Hello Gill, Apple has not released the full installer of 11.6 yet.
Hello Mr.Macintosh
i m waiting full Installer InstallAssistant.pkg from Apple server
i m waiting full Installer of 11.6 InstallAssistant.pkg
Not quite following. If I want to apply the .pkg via terminal or script to a host of mahcines, what is the recommended command and modifiers.
I successfully used your procedure to load Big Sur on my iMac 12,21 with an upgraded metal gpu.
When I attempted to upgrade my wife’s MacBookPro 9,2 I followed the procedure, but at the very end it failed to boot to the system. Perhaps I was impatient… but eventually I got to a message:
“Your Mac needs a firmware update in order to install to this volume. Please select a Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume instead.”
It’s possible that the booting got totally convoluted, but I’m wondering if there was some setting I failed to set, e.g. SIP, or some switch on in the OpenCore Legacy Patcher that should have been off. I will see what the Firmware version is later tonight when I can get access to the machine again.
I had tried to do an “update” install rather than a clean install… maybe a clean install would be more controlled. As it was I reinstalled Yosemite and restored all the files from the TimeMachine backup.
Any opinions, guesses, etc would be helpful
thanks
Hi Mr.Macintosh
I have MBP early 2011 with 512 ssd and 10 GB RAM and high sierra OS ,can I dual boot? I want to install big sur beside primary OS ( high sierra ).
I made a partition (APFS) format and download bigsur-V11.5.dmg
But I can’t install big sur for dual boot.
Can you help me?
I need xcode 12.5 for swift UI , And this is available on big sur.
Thanks
Hi, So I am trying to make a copy of Big Sur but I get this error
APFS disks may not be used as bootable install media.
An error occurred erasing the disk.
What type of disks can I use?
Hello Kavish, format the USB as macOS Extended Journaled
Hi i m Omer from pakistan i m trying to install mac big sur on my pc dell t 3500 workstation 16 gb ddr3 ram and xeon x 5660 2.8 hexacore but when i try to select the drive where i want to install ios it gives error that update cannot be install in this computer can i help bcoz from 3 weeks i got mad to do everything but here i stuck Thanks i m waiting for your answer 🙂
Thank you for the hard work. Currently downloading. Will the same terminal method suggested by apple work to make this a bootable usb installer? It calls the .app –> will this pkg expand to .app file?
sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Big\ Sur.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia –volume /Volumes/MyVolume
That command will work after you install the installassistant.pkg
tested on Late 2012 Mac mini, 16GB ram, following step by step process and installing on external 120GB SSD. installation goes untill booting and stops with Apple logo at 3/4 of loading. Eventually, the installation has left 2 partition on the SSD: OS one and Update (wich is weird). Stucked at this point. PS Used the latest OCLP TUI and downloaded the last BigSur Install Assistant pkg from your link (maybe need a newer one as it is 3 month old?)
Thank you for all your help. I am downloading to a pc, to fix the Mac. Suggestions or directions?
imac 12,1 ( 21.5 inch – Mid 2011 )
i5 2.5GHz – 12GB Ram – AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512 MB )
I installed using OpenCore Patcher and did the Post-Installation
but color was inverted plinking with mouse movement
I solved that by reducing the color depth.
But discovered that WiFi netwok is not working particularily when installing apps.
so I am connecting the wired ethernet now as a quick solution.
Any ideas?
Hany, what did you do to reduce the color depth? Also when you say installing apps do you mean from the app store?
I have this iMac as well how did you get it to work ?
I’d love to have Big Sur on it.
The link to Big Sur pkg 11.2.3 no longer seems to work :-/ How can I get it?
Hello, I can’t download 11.2.3 even if I copy the link, is there an other way to download the 11.2.3 pkg file?
Redwan, the pkg is giving me a network error in Chrome but works fine in Safari. Try that!
Hello, my m1 macbook air can’t download 11.2.3 too in Safari.
Could it be related to MacOS monterey beta?
Sorry for the delay Mucas but 11.2.3 was removed by apple.
I have it
your web has a bug as I was able to download macOS 11.2.3 and 11.3
How? Can you explain, so everyone could do the same thing?
11.2.3 and 11.3 are no longer in the Software Update Service. If you would like to download 11.2.3 you can get it from the archive https://archive.org/details/install-mac-os-11.2.3-20-d-91
How can I get 11.2.3 now?
https://archive.org/details/install-mac-os-11.2.3-20-d-91
Really sorry for the trouble Mr. Macintosh. Is there a faster server from which I can download 11.2.3. The download says that it would take a day to complete at that speed 😅Thanks a lot for your efforts Mr. Macintosh.
That is the only one I trust right now, sorry about that 🙁
Hi!
It looks like 11.3.1 and below are no longer available. Tried it with 3 different browsers but it only downloads xml or giving 404 error
Thank you for the update Ricky, I updated to show that both 11.2.3 and 11.3 are gone. 11.3.1 was still showing up as available, I’ll check agian.
Hi Mr MacIntosh and thanks for all our work on there, really precious stuff!
Quick (probably stupid also) question : am I right in thinking the above full installers act just like the combo updates of yore? Let’s say I’m on macOS 11.4, if I download the 11.5.2 package and run from my machine, will it update the OS without deleting my files?
Thanks very much in avdance!
This is a no stupid question zone François 😀
The answer is YES, the full install will act like the old combo updaters. If you are on Big Sur 11.2 and you download the latest 11.5.2 it will update you and retain all your files and settings.
Thanks you very much!
Hi, may I know, where did u get those apple database download links?
Re: Open Core Legacy Patcher
I’m one of the 1000’s of MacPro folks that can not use a USB installer. My Mac Pro can not boot into the startup manager using the option key (This seems to be a very frequent problem according to Apple) (5,1- 3.46GHz-12 core, 2012.)
I have 4 OWC SSD drives (running Catalina) in my Mac Pro, and have tried to change to old Hitachi spin drives, have zapped the PRAM (option-command-P-R) hundreds of times – still can’t boot into the startup manager. I can use the startup manager in the system preferences to change volumes, but USB drives are always listed as not bleesed/blessable.
Is there a way I can run this without using a USB drive (like I did when updating from Mojave to Catalina-using DosDude1’s updater)?
I have a Radeon 580 (metal capable card, and have updated both bluetooth (to 4.0), and WiFi (to AC.)

Sometimes 11.2.3 will say not available or can’t read target and fail when you try to save, but as of today it is there and took a few attempts to actually start saving.
Thanks for this great resource Mr. Macintosh

Hi,
I have a late 2003 IMac with latest Catalina. I was on Big Sur but had to factory reset and ditch backups and now I can’t get Big Sur back on – is the download 11.2.3 gonna work?
I have a mid 2009 MBP, so far, the Install Assistant (the one from your video, about two months ago), worked. The EFI boot worked. Here’s where it gets tricky, as soon as the remaining time is up (which in my case is never only those 25 minutes, but way longer), it automatically reboots, and I’m met with three choices: Macintosh HD, macOS Big Sur installer and a third option; if I don’t select anything (because I roughly just have approx. 5 – 15 secs to decide), it “continues” with the installer (I can see the Apple logo and the progress bar), however, it gets stuck for hours (last time I checked today, before I shut it down, it was already up for 4 hours). Now, did I miss something? Is it supposed to take that long or should I choose an other option after the first “install” reboot? Unfortunately this part has not been covered in your video (you mentioned that it took you close to 1 hour).
Kind regards and all the best from Europe.
And also: thank you for your contributions via this website and your social media,
Matthew
Hello Matthew thanks!
What version of OCLP and Big Sur are you using?
Hello Mr. Macintosh,
thank you for your swift reply; sorry that I didn’t answer sooner. To be honest, the latest version did not download properly, so I used both versions of your video. I now downloaded the “most recent one” (status: last week) and hope it’ll somehow work.
I need 11.2.3 but it won’t download. Actually, none of them want to download.
Chris, right click on the link and past it into a new tab. Does that work?
use safari instead
This pkg will work for intel macbook pro’s as well?
YES!
i’m not able to download the package 11.2.3
11.2.3 is still available ?
Hey There, Hello from Brazil! Im having some troubles trying to get my MacBook Air Model 3,1 from late 2010 to upgrade from Mojave to BigSur! Any ideas? Let me clarify to you what I did: 1) I make a Bootable Usb Stick from .PKG (version 11.2.3) found here. Use the process you teached (createinstallmedia in Terminal – Using Mojave system) – Ok. 2) Applied OpenCore Legacy panther, copied to EFI Section using Legacy as you teached – Ok. 3) Choose EFI Boot in sequence Install BigSur – OK. 4)Begin install (setup to install, …choose install disk) it stops when 12 minutes lasts to finish. Computer Reboot, now in Apple’s Logo and progress bar goes until the end. Reebot again: Same Apples logo but here progress bar goes to a 30%, and stuck still on it. It stops, and nothing else happens. I wait for 6 hours to see some advance, but nothing. What I did wrong? Come back to Mojave I see the contents of USB disk: 3 partitions:” Big Sur DATA”; “Update”; and another one that Not Mounted by Mojave with 16GB – I figure out is: “Apple UDFI Ready-Only” with “shared support container”, however is not mounted by Mojave, because system limitations – incompatible media (system says)…please help me. Or there is another kind to upgrade to BigSur using another pacther?? help me!!!
InstallAssistants from previous Big Sur releases are still available.
Apple uses various IP addresses to store files into the /downloads/content repositories. These can be easily found through Google Search queries.
John, if you can find them let me know as they are marked as “Deprecated” in the catalog.
I see that UniversalMac_11.5_20G70_Restore.ipsw is available as an IPSW – does anyone have the direct link for the 11.5 20G70 RC Install .pkg version?
Not available just yet Dan. When it is, i’ll post it asap
Hi,I cant, believe the last 3 updates have had no installer package?..2…ok..but…3?..is 1 off them there today Mr. Mac?…Im running os 11.5 3 beta on Bens Big sur Patcher…..and i would like 1 of them…..Tks if possible..Like your vidieos..
I hear ya Steve. Hopefully Apple will release 11.5 this coming Tuesday!
Hmm. This works on my Catalina based 9,2 MacBook pro, but the Terminal commands must be different for older Macs, as my mid 2007 iMac running El Capitan does not recognise /Resources. I might try reinstalling MacOs.
Hi Mr. Macintosh is it possible to directly downgrade from macOS Monterey Beta 2 to macOS Big Sur 11.4 without using a usb, can I put the installer into a partition and load the installer off it?
Hi Mr. Macintosh can we directly downgrade form macOS 12 beta 2 to directly macOS Big Sur 11.2.3 directly?
Hello Mr. Macintosh!
Do you foresee an “Install Assistant 11.5 Beta 4 20G5052c” showing up in the “macOS Big Sur 11 Beta Full Installer Download” database in the near future?
Thank you for the wonderful ‘go to’ resource.
I’m guessing no, but if it gets released I will post it!
Hello Mr. M,
Having downloaded latest Bug Sur full installer, I’m unable to verify InstallAssistant.pkg
I logged in as Admin, opened Terminal, and cd’ed over to my admin acount and Download folder where the pkg sits. I executed ‘openssl dgst -sha256 InstallAssistant.pkg’. A few blank rows is all I got. No error messages. It just stalled. For good measure, I tried again using sudo. Have tried numerous times with same result.
Would appreciate your input.
Thanks.
Which version Steve?
Hi. Tried following your steps but my iMac wont boot to the boot options with a wireless non-mac BT keyboard, will have to get a wired one soon. I have also noticed the OC patcher doesnt show the target OS as you mentioned, when it starts up. Does this mean there’s a problem. Your vid also states, “if you want to check the Big Sur file is the correct one…..”, does this mean only specific downloads will work? You have several versions available for download but you say you’re using 16.5.01 and thats the one you want. Thanks again for your video and assistance.
Hello Morne, you can just pick the latest version (at the time of this comment 11.4)
Can I get macOS Big Sur on iPad can you please help me.As you have helped me several times with my Mac.

any version that will allow me to use final cut

thank you!
Yes, it is working. Strange….I tried few times and I always go the same error message…well, good news at least
11.2.1 and 11.2.2 InstallAsistant.pkg are no more
11.2.2 still looks good can you check?
btw, any idea where I can find the old InstallAssistants.pkg file, besides the apple web-site?
Sadly, once they pull them they are gone.
I can’t make a bootable installer from the 11.2.3 InstallAssistant.pkg. I need that particular version, not the newest.
I’m able to move the installer to my Mac HD, and go through the motions of creating a bootable USB, but in the end it’s not (blessed) bootable. Doesn’t show up in Startup Disk prefs or Option at reboot.
IM trying ro downgrade to 11.2.3 and it upgraded me to 11.4
I have an issue and I hope you help me
using installAssistant.pkg for big sur
After installing the package I get 27 mb app that I can’t make a bootable usb drive from
could you help me getting the 12 gb installation app?
hi! i have such a problem after downgrade from macOS 11.3.1 to 11.2.3: iCloud Drive is unable to sync… messages, calendar etc. is synced but my iCloud Drive folders and files doesn’t show in iCloud Drive folder on my Macbook Air M1. Do you (or anybody) know how to fix that?
Thank for this article 🙂
i can’t downgrade from 11.3.1 to 11.3. Is there any way to keep downgraded? Thanks
Ronald, is this an M1 or intel?
M1 version
It should still be possible to create a bootable install disk from one of the older versions linked here, shouldn’t it?
I ask because I’m currently running Mojave 10.14.6. I want to create a bootable install disk of Big Sur 11.2.3 (the most recent version that is compatible with a certain software I use daily).
I downloaded 11.2.3 from the link above, ran the InstallAssistant.pkg. It appeared as it should in my Applications folder. I then ran the Apple Terminal commands to create the install disk on a USB partition I formatted correctly (MacOS Extended Journaled). It ran through the entire process and is NOT bootable. It’s not showing up in my Startup Disk prefs.
Ideas?
Adding checksum to the InstallAssistant.pkg links would be awesome.
Thank you for this opportunity, the Big Sur 11.3 is working well on my unsupported MBP retina 2012 15″
Thanks for download links. Almost impossible to find them somewhere else
Thank u, Mr.macintosh. I am your fan reader from Taiwan. ^_^
Your posts which is about macOS Full-installer are very helpful for me. ^_^
But I have a little question about this sentence.
“The InstallAssistant.pkg is not available for Catalina or Mojave.”
Is the mean I have to upgrade my macOS Catalina to Big Sur
by using Software update in macOS Catalina first ,
After that step, then i can clean install or normal install/upgrade macOS Big Sur again ,
…It means I can’t install Full-installs.app to upgrade my macOS in the past way, am I right ?
Finally, thanks for your works and posts again ^_^
Hello Walter, to clarify that sentence. I mean that you can only get the Big Sur Full installer via InstallAssistant.pkg. The installer was redesigned for Big Sur so any new OS like os 12 will be able to get the full installer this way. Mojave and Catalina installers were built a different way and do not have an InstallAssistant.pkg
Sorry, english is not my mother language and I still keep leaning it weekly.
Now I totally understand what its means for that sentence,
and your explanation is very clear and easy to understand.
So if I want to upgrade my macOS from Catalina to Big Sur,
I have to use the “Software Update” way, or use your “Patched-Sur” apps, correct ?! ^_^
Finally, thanks for your works and posts again ^_^
Wish you have a wonderful working day, Mr. macintosh ^_^
PS. I am using macOS Catalina in my backup MBP 2013 late,
and my working MBP is waiting for fix in our apple retail store. T.T
Your MBP it´s compatible with Big Sur and you´ll need to upgrade through “Software Update”. Anyways, here´s the link to see all the supported macs that can be upgraded to Big Sur (without Patched Sur) https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT211238
🙂
Can you please include Application Version for each?
I have a Windows box used to download & upload these packages so cannot inspect the Application Version
Great idea Bilal, I will add this soon.
This is a brilliant idea – documenting the version of the Install macOS app. e.g I just grabbed the 11.3 RC8 version of the app, and Install macOS app version shows as 16.5.09. It’d be very useful for the
everyday admin to just look at that number, come here, and think “oh, i have version 16.5.09…that translates to 11.3 RC8”
DONE!!!
Looks great but can it be used in unsupported macs?
I’m about to find out. I have a late 2013 iMac that isn’t supported as far as Apple is concerned.
So I downloaded the full size 11.5.1 on Safari and the file size was 12.44GB but the speed was too slow so I opted to re-download using Opera and the speed was way faster but the file size was 11.6GB. Hopefully it’ll work out okay
