macOS 12 Monterey Final & Beta Full Installers
This database will contain download links for macOS 12 full Installer pkg files (InstallAssistant.pkg). This file is the same full installer that you would download directly from the App Store for Intel and Apple Silicon M1 Mac Computers. The InstallAssistant.pkg is stored on Apple’s servers and contains the full “Install macOS.app”. Once downloaded, all you need to do is install the pkg and the full installer of macOS will be in your applications folder. This change was made when Apple revised the full installer for Big Sur. The InstallAssistant.pkg is not available for Catalina or Mojave.
UPDATED: 1/03/25
NOTE: macOS Monterey is no longer supported by Apple. The final version is 12.7.6 released on 7/29/24.

InstallAssistant.pkg?
The InstallAssistant.pkg is just a standard package that includes the full macOS 12 installer.app. All the pkg does is install/move the app to your applications folder. Let’s take a closer look.
I am using SUS Inspector to view the full installer for macOS Big Sur 11.2.3. You can see the InstallAssistant.pkg file listed. You can also see the direct download path from Apple’s servers. The link does not last forever. For example, the download link for beta full installers only seem to last for a month or so.
Production links last a little longer. For example 11.2.1 is still available but 11.2 is not. This database will be updated when a new full installer is released.
Thank You
A big thanks to Eric Holtam @eholtam. When I need to verify something in SUS, he always lends a hand!
Also thank you Hannes Juutilainen @hjuutilainen for creating SUS Inspector. This is a top 5 app for me!

Hi MM,
Happy 2022!
Hey, I have the Monterey Installer [Intel], and want to install the macOS apps separately. In this way, I can overcome the SIP and authenticated root to then change the icons I want in the system. I’d also like to change the folders and bins, but not sure how to do that.
If you do know an easier way to change System macOS icons without needing to bless the latest snapshot, that would be great. then I can change what I want like I used to in Catalina. the macOS UI is terrible. Any help you can give me, and others, to do this would be fantastic.
🙂

Hello ,
First of all thnk you for your help with agreat video how to install Monterey on my MacPro 3.1 . Installation went quite good bit the last thing unfortunately not so good . I am talking about post installation . I tried that step few times but every time I get the same error . SIP must be disabled to continue even if I did disable it in Recovery mode , in the patcher and with OCLP configurator. Is there anything more that I could try okease because I can use my mac but sometimes it really gets slow and freezes for few seconds. Before Monterey I used Catalina and all was good with my grafic card ASUS gtx680 2gb . My grafic card can’t cause such issues, right ? I am using mac pro 3.1 2008 and my Bluetooth card and wifi is still in even if I can’t use it anymore .Any suggestions what to do or try ? Thank you
Thx your video was perfect!
But at the very end I got in a looping with the message:
This version of macOS 10 is not supported and after 30 secs of sleeping exit.
Hi,
I’ve done Monterey installation on an unsupported Mac running big sure (also unsupported 😉 ). I’ve a Mac mini late 2012.
Everything nice and installed following your YouTube video. Thanks.
I just have a big problem !!
After my Mac turn to sleep mode I cannot wake it up!!!
Seems Bluetooth is disabled?
So mouse and keyboard doesn’t respond.
I have to shutdown (using power on button) the Mac mini.
After boot everything is working well … until sleep mode 🥶🙁
Any idea or work around ?
Thanks a lot
Pierre
hi team, I have an old macbookpro 2009 5.3. intel core 2 duo 2.65 ghz. I tried the Monterey oclp with Installing the 12.0.1 with upgrade from big sur and also tried with fresh install in different hard drive. both situations are showing the wifi does not working. It shows the wifi keep trying to scan, but it never return any available network. I changed back to the original big sur hd or use fresh install the big sur on different ssd, I verified that the wifi is indeed working fine in the big sur in my old macbook pro with wireless router hardware. only the Monterey 12.0.1 fail to work with wifi. you will see the wifi keep try to scan but it did not show any network. I also searched on the web. there are a lot of people complained about the Monterey with wifi, I followed their procedure to reset or delete the entry, it is still not able to fix it. appreciate your guidance and suggestion here to help on this situation? probably should I revert back to the big sur 11.6.1 and wait for next Monterey update release before I try to upgrade again.
I downloaded the latest Open core patcher and run twice with post installation. the wifi finally works. also need to run all old entry clean up before it works. thank you very much
Any link for 12.1 Beta 1 out yet? 😀
Hi there — Impressive the work you are doing to make us use our “old” Mac with an updated version of the OS… Thanks for that!
I upgraded my iMac Late 2013 yesterday to BigSur. Everything went fine and it is working perfectly well. Now when trying to install the latest update (12.0.1), it is downloading, then rebooting and come back at the exact same step (ask to download Monterey and Install). Is there anything I need to do to make it work?
Thanks for your help,
Chris
Hi Friends..
You make a great Work with this Blog…
i ask you a question. i have a iMac 21.5 lete 2013 3,1 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 with
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 1 GB
In Bigsur it works great but today after updating to Monterey 12.0.1 release. I got a extremely slow Behavior, i realize it nVidia Graphic card…
Is there a Way to Accelerate this iMac? i consider seriously get back to BigSur. because it is almost unusable..
Thanks in advance for your attention. i Appreciated an answer..
Greetings
You need to run the Open Core Legacy Patcher Post Install Patch (option 3)
It’ll download 200Mb of video drivers and install them. Then your Mac, like mine, will be back to top speed.
I heard that there’s a patch for Hackintosh which is used to support nVidia graphic card.
Hello,
What do the version numbers in the “app” column stand for?
I see that for macOS Monterey 12.0.1 (21A559) the app version is 17.0.07. This is the same app version in Monterey B1. For Monterey B10, the app version is 17.0.26. Shouldn’t the stable release app version match the app version of B10?
Thanks
Have you installed that image?
When rebooting and installing the new macOS BETA 10 I am getting an error: “error while verifying firmware”. I can’t seem to find a solution online. Any help would be appreciated.
I had the same problem when installing the beta 8. All I did was update my EFI and voila!
What Mac are you running and where did you get the EFI? How do I know what one to get?
Full downloader for RC 2 should be avail, I’m downloading 11.73GB right now to update from Beta 10 to RC 2…
That might be the unsealed update that is sometimes needed. Sadly, I don’t see a full installer yet.
Every single beta update doesn’t show on my iMac and I have to wait for the full installer. Does anyone know a permanent fix for this. I’ve tried re-enrolling, safe mode, countless reboots, killing software update processes, fixing enrollment via the CLI. Nothing seems to help. I hope anyone has the killer tip :-).
Anyone facing the same issue? I can’t update to the RC.
Exactly the same for me. No idea what’s wrong.
Evening, I have a problem relating to a USB flash drive. It is not showing up on “Install OpenCore to USB/internal drive” even though I formatted it as -mac os extended journaled-
did anyone get that issue? and would like how to resolve that.
Thanks in advance.
Yes, erase the top level drive again and select GUID from the 3rd option.
Hello i’m desperate … i also called apple ass. but they didn’t answer me about anything — you can help me I’m in big sur and I can’t install Monterey beta 8 neither updating nor clean installation …. error finwere not found etc — give me a hand – –
Will you guys release the B9 fullinstaller soon?
Upgraded my Macbook 2012 to Monterey beta 8, run Opencore Patcher 0.25 on system volume – rebooted and Bluetooth not working needed to run “sudo killall -9 BlueTool bluetoothd”.
Bluetooth previously worked before running Opencore Patcher and rebooting.
Any clue why beta 6 download starts without problem then after downloaded about 0,5-2GB it stops without any specific error?
Tried million times, my internet connection is rock solid.
I get the same thing, as when I install beta 8 on a late 2013 MacBook Pro all I get is a blank screen after install completes, I can still shut down and use the keyboard but no luck with getting the screen actually on. Anyone else had this issue ? And help would be greatly appreciated.
This is good MacOS Monterey beta 8 installer: https://ibb.co/X2bH7mz ???
Installer version: 17.0.03 (17003)
The weird thing is that the installer downloaded from here a few days ago, but the SHA256 sum is completely different. I have a hash sum of the file:
SHA256 (Install_macOS_12.0-21A5534d.dmg) = e87d1ac8e8fe8a144ac40c8e5e35847a4e6e8459e6be0cffd09b82871ccaa941
Maybe this is a virus attack and someone or the virus changed the installer in a couple of days?
Is it possible to somehow check all parts of the installer itself using MacOS tools to find out which file is damaged inside?
Hello Vladimir, I do the SHA256 on the InstallAssistant.pkg
Try that and see if it matches.
Unfortunately none of the pkg will download, it goes to download and then doesn’t ever go through it kick open another blank page and then it disappears
Missyc, Right click on the link and click “Copy Link Address” then paste it in a new tab.
I’ve successfully created bootable macOS Monterey beta 8.
When I tried to install it the error shown in macOS Update Assistant “An error occurred while verifying firmware ”
Any suggestion..?
Thanks
I, too, would be interested in knowing the cure to this.
Sharing my thoughts….I have pretty good success at troubleshooting issues, so here goes.
I have I created a beta 8 usb installer without problems. I attempted to launch the drive’s install app within beta 7 but all that happened was that I got the dock icon for the installer bouncing endlessly – long enough that I gave up. So then I decided to boot into beta 7 using safe-mode (this macOS installation is on an external ssd drive, by the way). My M1 Mac mini has only my monitor, external drive with beta 7, and installer usb connected, so only the minimal peripherals plugged in. While at the safe-mode desktop, I opened the installer usb and launched the beta 8 install app. It still bounced for quite a while (but I waited patiently), and finally, the install app window appeared. I then was able to complete the install of beta 8. previously, I had tried to update using Software Update, but it would not complete, so I gave upon that and tried the usb installer route. If I had not been successful running the update install off the usb in safe mode, my next step would have be booting to 1TR and running the bootable usb installer.
I would try these steps, and at some point, if still getting the firmware verification error, I would “start over” and re-download the beta 8 installassistant.pkg and re-create the beta 8 usb installer, just to make certain that no corruption has occurred. If nothing works, you can start fresh if you have access to a 2nd Mac using Apple Configurator 2 and a USB-C cable, as has been throughly discussed by Mr. Macintosh on this site.
Good luck.
Hi,
I had a similar issue the first time I went through upgrade my Macbook 2012 to beta 8. Check the Scheme (Partition Table) must be GUID Partition Map and re-create the beta 8 usb installer. Boot to the usb uefi partition holding the Option key and then then select the Monterey beta 8 installer.
Fingers crossed you should then successfully have an install/upgrade on Monterey beta 8.
I had the same issue. Are you using a NVME drive instead of the Apple one? When I swapped back to the old drive I could successfully install Monterey Beta 9. I then attempted it again on the NVME drive, and voila it worked. I got an error message saying the install agent needed to update some firmware but it required a compatible drive. I guess there is some update hidden which it will not allow when using a drive other than produced by Apple.
Solution (workaround) to the failed install app creation:
Actually it was quite simple.
First create the Monterey install app in Apps with the InstallAssistant.pkg,
then open a Terminal window in the folder containing the InstallAssistant.pkg file and use the pkgutil command to extract the InstallApplication.pkg to a folder of your liking, in my case it created a folder called InstallAssistant in the Downloads folder with following command:
pkgutil –expand InstallAssistant.pkg InstallAssistant
After that just go to the created MacOS Install App in Apps and with right-click Show package contents or something (sorry, my Mac runs in Dutch language) like that and go into the Contents folder.
There you can see that the SharedSupport folder is missing.
Now simply copy over the SharedSupport folder with it’s contents SharedSupport.dmg from the extracted InstallAssistant/Contents folder into the Contents folder of the MacOS Install App
Now the createinstallmedia command
sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Monterey\ Beta.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia –volume /Volumes/”yourusbdrivename”
should work fine again, wait a bit and voila, one created install medium ready to use.
Works like a charm, tested it an hour ago.
Succes
Yes, this worked for me too, I could create an install media. The problem with this method occured when trying to install from the USB media. The installation dialog reported a problem with a damaged installation.
Hi Martin,
I had absolutely no problem with any type of damage what so ever. The install went just as smooth as if it was a full install such as OS Catalina.
Thomas
Hi Thomas
I’ve followed the instruction from Gert
When I try to install from the Application I got the same issue “Installation cannot proceed because the installer is damaged”
Any suggestion ?
Thanks
Andang, that workaround is not working correctly. The good news is that Beta 8 is out and the full installer should be out at 12CST
Sounds great
Thanks Mr Macintosh
I am waiting patiently since 12CST – so far nothing happened .-)
Thank you for the installer, Mr. Macintosh.
Beta 8 successfully installed. 🙂
I was hoping to get this working in VMware. I guess I can go ahead and create the install USB and try it that way.
how do i open a Terminal window in the folder containing the InstallAssistant.pkg file and use the pkgutil command to extract the InstallApplication.pkg to a folder of your liking
Even though we are up to Monterey Beta 7, I am still getting a “failed to personalize” error when attempting to update from Beta 6 on an external SSD attached to my M1 Mac mini. This error occurs shortly following the downloading phase of Preferences -> Software Update. I am in the Public Beta program. Is there a reasonable workaround? Normally, I would create a full USB installer (but we can’t seem to do that yet), then boot to 1TR, erase the external SSD boot volume, create a fresh volume for the new installation, reboot to the full USB installer, install onto the fresh volume, and migrate from a saved CCC backup — whew!
Will Apple ever squash this personalization bug? And when will we have Beta 7 InstallAssistant.pkg that actually lets us create a bootable USB installer?
Help, please, and thank you so much!
I have an update to the Monterey Beta install issue. Repeated InstallAssistant.pkg downloads have not changed the ability to create a USB installer — therefore, I predict that Apple has changed the process with Monterey, therefore, the old command line instruction just will not work. I decided to boot to my internal macOS Big Sur, and then download and run the Monterey Beta 7 InstallAssistant.pkg, directing the install location to my external drive volume containing Monterey Beta 6. Although the install preparation was very lengthy (well over an hour), it successfully resulted in Monterey Beta 7 being installed over Beta 6 — no personalization or other errors occurred. The installer works properly, it just will not allow creation of a full USB installer with the previous command line that worked with Big Sur. I’m sure this is intentional by Apple, and hopefully, they will reveal the proper command line that will result in a proper USB installer creation. Again, I hope this is the case.
How did you install from InstallAssistant.pkg? If i install from InstallAssistant.pkg I only get a 32 MB Application Installer which complaints that it need to download additional content, which is not possible.
Hello Martin Marsian. Sorry you are having troubles. Let me theorize on what is going on. Although the InstallAssistant.pkg download is 11.66 GB, when run, it creates and places “Install macOS Monterey beta” 34.8 MB in your Applications folder. This installer app is not a full install package, but is intended to launch the install process, during which much of the macOS installation is downloaded. With Monterey, Apple has modified the install process so that it is different from Big Sur. This gives the appearance that the download was defective, but I am fairly certain that this is not the case. You can’t create a bootable USB installer because Apple has not provided us with the correct command yet. Or possibly, Apple does not intend for us to create a bootable USB installer for Monterey Beta (at least Beta 6 and Beta 7. Or this is really an error on Apple’s part which will be corrected with a future installer — who knows other than Apple at this point. In any event, creating a bootable USB installer is off the table for now, and a subject for further research. Mr. Macintosh’s modifications posted on Twitter allowed for creation of a bootable USB, but it produced an error, so that did not work. However, I was able to get my Beta 6 upgraded to Beta 7 using the installer, so running the “stub” worked in my circumstances: 1) I booted my internal volume installation of macOS Big Sur 11.6, then I downloaded the installer file from Mr. Macintosh’s link. I ran the InstallAssistant.pkg, and as you know, this placed a 34.8 MB file (Install macOS Monterey beta.app) into my Applications folder. I ran this app, and specified the existing macOS Monterey beta 6 volume on my EXTERNAL USB as the destination for the install – I did not attempt nor intend to upgrade my Big Sur at all. The installer proceeded to run for over an hour, and finally asked me to quit all apps and restart to proceed with the update (from Beta 6 to Beta 7). Again, I was running the installer from macOS Big Sur — I had a failure when trying to update by running from Monterey Beta 6, but the process worked fine when running from Big Sur — again, I’ve had a number of errors produced with other update attempts, including trying to update using Software Update — Apple seems to still be working on getting the update process debugged. And by the way, the “createinstallmedia” instructions are shown below:
(Usage: createinstallmedia –volume
Arguments
–volume, A path to a volume that can be unmounted and erased to create the install media.
–nointeraction, Erase the disk pointed to by volume without prompting for confirmation.
–downloadassets, Download on-demand assets that may be required for installation.
Example: createinstallmedia –volume /Volumes/Untitled
This tool must be run as root. )
It’s interesting that your error message shows the need to download additional content, yes?
Anyway, I did get it to work for updating an external ssd, but under a very specific set of conditions. I’m certain that there is more to this story that Apple will expound on when it is ready, possibly after Monterey is formally released. I would be very surprised if creating a bootable installer was discontinued, as it is a necessity at times to get a successful install done.
Good luck!
Martin, the Beta 7 Full installer is broken. I just updated the article to let others know. I also let apple know and they said the installer will be fixed in beta 8.
Thank you for this information, Mr. M. It’s good to see that Apple will correct this installer quickly. I hope that they will also correct the personalization problem that causes installs to fail.
Hi Mr. Macintosh,
Thanks for all of your great work. With your direction and using Open Core I have been able to install both Big Sur and Monterey on my late 2013 unsupported iMac. I just want to let you know that I downloaded the “broken” Monterey Beta 7 installer to my downloads folder in macOS Monterey Beta 6. I then installed it into my applications folder, then double clicked on it and installed it on my iMac and it is running without any problems.
Thomas
Thank you Thomas, I will edit that section to clarify that the USB installer part is broken. Quick question, did it install pretty quickly or did the install part before it restarted take a while like it was downloading?
HI Mr. Mac.
The Monterey macOS Beta 7 installed about the same speed as macOS Catalina as far as I could tell. The install speed was about the same installing a regular OS.
Thomas
Since beta 5 the beta updates don’t show in my system preferences anymore. I’ve tried re-subscribing, using the terminal, refreshing, rebooting, fixing the seedutil and any combination of this. It’s frustrating. I could eventually install beta 6 via the full installer, but the one for beta 7 seems broken. Does anyone know of anyway get the update to show?
Hi Mr Macintosh how can i get latest macOS Monterey 12 beta ‘s InstallAssistang.pkg link using SUS Inspector App now i m using Sus Inspector app but i don’t see beta’s installer of Monterey 12 link

Any news on a working installer?
Any news on the installer?
Will be fixed in beta 8 👍
Hi, Mr. Macintosh.
I can’t install macOS 12b7.
I downloaded InstallAssistant.pkg, it only installs a 32 MB installer app into /Applications, comparing the b6 installer with 12b7 shows, that /Contents/SharedSupport is missing. Create install media is not working.
After copying SharedSupport.dmg to /Contents/SharedSupport I can create an install media, but booting into the installer and trying to install results in an error of “Installation is damaged”.
It seems that Apple has changed something how the installer works.
Let me test the installer and find out, thanks for letting me know Martin.
Same thing for me. Downloads a 11gb file and then its showing just a 32mb installer. tried using it anyway and went through the whole process and it finished but the version of Beta didn’t change.
Thank you for letting me know. I’ve confirmed this and sent the issue in to Apple Enterprise Support.
I did notice that the full install of Big Sur 11.6 does the same thing
waiting for the full version

My MacBook Pro Retina 2015 stuck boot loading after install Monterey. I tried safe boot trick hold shift, it still stuck at boot loading. What should I do?
Can I install this even though I don’t have a developer membership?
I installed it with OpenCore Patcher in my iMac from late 2012 and it worked. I think it should work. I log in on my Apple ID, but still I don´t know if there is a risk of ban so don´t do that.
PD: I don´t have a membership
PD2: Sorry for my gramatical errors. I´m spanish.
Yup
Yes, check out the public beta, https://beta.apple.com/sp/betaprogram/ assuming your Mac is support, if not there is a video on how to install on an unsupported Mac.
Hope this helps.
Hey Mr. Macintosh, do you happen to have the macOS 12 beta software update catalog links? I’m looking for the links to plug into SUS Inspector.
In About this Mac, GPU/Graphics name is missing. Is there a fix for that?
Any way to get the IPSW of this beta for M1 devices?
Many thanks for your hard work!
You bet Thomas! I’m still trying to convince Apple to release IPSW Files! (They will not release Beta IPSW Files for macOS)
What are your suggestions on how to play around with macOS beta’s without installing them onto your laptop? I have been playing around with setting up a VM using VMWare Fusion but it’s normally a bit behind the releases. Is there anther way you suggest?
Hello Anna, I suggest installing them an external hard drive or a different partition. That way you can remove the partition or the external drive if something does not work out. VM support is sometimes slow going while the betas are continuing to improve.
Will macOS Monterey work on intel macs?
Yes! https://mrmacintosh.com/macos-12-requirements-full-list-of-compatible-mac-computers/
Thank you bhaiya….
