Do you need to downgrade or upgrade macOS on your Mac? This page will show you the oldest and newest version of macOS that you can install on your Mac.
Can I upgrade or downgrade macOS? How many times has this question come up over the years? Probably hundreds if not thousands of times. Mac Hardware has a minimum and maximum version of macOS that can be installed. MacOS versions that come before or after the minimum and maximum listed OS do not have the correct drivers required. At a certain point Apple will decide that a Mac is no longer supported and will not include drivers.
Internet Recovery Version
If your Mac supports Internet Recovery, you can use this guide to find out which version of macOS you will get using the following options.
Newest OS – Option-⌘-R
This option will be the newest or latest version of macOS that can be installed on your Mac.
Shipping OS (Oldest OS Available) – Shift-Option-⌘-R
The “Shipping OS Version” is the macOS version that your Mac originally shipped with from the factory. This is the IR Version that you will see if you use Shift-Option-⌘-R.
NOTE! The “Shipping OS can change to a newer OS release as the hardware gets older. An example of this is a MacBook Pro released with 10.13 but later is shipped with 10.14.

The MacBook Air was first introduced at Macworld San Fransisco by Steve Jobs on January 15th, 2008. For the 1st Generation from 2008-2010 the screen size was or a 13.3″ and included a Intel Core 2 Duo Processor. The Second Generation introduced in 2010 added an 11″ version. From 2017 on you could only get the 13″ Model. The 3rd Generation 13-inch MacBook Air was released in 2018.

The much-awaited MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019) was just released this morning! You can’t get it just yet, but very soon. (November 15th)
To accompany the new 16″ MacBook Pro, we have a forked Build Version of macOS Catalina 10.15.1 (19B2106) Installer.app. We also have a macOS Catalina 10.15.1 supplemental update.
The macOS Catalina 10.15.1 supplemental update improves the stability and reliability of displays and peripherals with MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019).

This means that as soon as you receive the new 16″ MacBook Pro, the 10.15.1 Supplemental Update (19B2106) will show as available.
Today Apple Released a New Mojave 10.14.5 (18F2058) Forked Full Installer app
UPDATED: 07/10/19
In the past when Apple released a build it would start with a 2 digits followed by a letter. An example of this would be 18F132 which is a unified build of macOS Mojave 10.14.5. Just this morning Apple released new hardware which I covered here. Usually with new hardware comes a specific BuildVersion of the OS.
MacOS Mojave 10.14.5 (18F2058)
To find out if this really was a forked build, I cracked open the OSInstall.mpkg inside the new build. The build is listed as Product ID 041-69971 – 10.14.5 – 18F2058 and was released on 2019-07-09 (Today). Inside you will find the Distribution file. Inside this file you will find all the compatible boardIDs for this build. After comparing both Distribution files two new board ID’s popped up.

You can only download and install 10.14.5 (18F2058) on the newly released hardware.
As usually with forked builds you can only install this BuildVersion on the newly released hardware. You will also only be able to download this version using the Mac App Store or instalinstallmacos.py on said new hardware. Trying to download this from the Mac App Store on older hardware will get you the old 18F132 or 18F203. If you try to download (18F2058) using installinstallmacos.py using older hardware you will get Installer: Error – ERROR_90F0494CE3 Product installation failed or one of the very similar number errors.
This version is only recommended for the new hardware.
Today Apple Released Multiple Hardware Updates to it’s NoteBook Line.
The Mac Lineup has seen multiple hardware updates so far in 2019. The trend continues today with the July 2019 Hardware Updates. Today we have two updated Macs and two discontinued Macs.
2019 Entry-Level 13″ MacBook Pro
When released the 13″ Non Touch Bar MacBook Pro was supposed to be an affordable way to get into the MacBook Pro line. The model did not come with a Touch Bar or Touch ID. After it was released, two hardware refreshes passed and it never gained the T2 Security Chip. That all changes today with the new updated model. The new features are listed below.

Apple today also updated the MacBook Air today after redesigning it in late 2018. The 2017 Model that was still for sale was finally discontinued. The 2017 Model carried on since late 2010.

So long 2010-2017 MacBook Air! I really believe that this model was one of the greatest notebooks Apple has ever created.
I really liked the 12″ MacBook. It was super light and very portable, yet it lacked two things that would have made it a winner. I feel if it had Thunderbolt 3 and a 2nd port it would have sold a lot better. It’s too late for that now since it’s now dead. So long 12″ MacBook!

2018-19 15″ T2 MacBook Pro Supplemental Update.10.14.5 (18F203)
Apple today released a MacBook Pro Supplemental Update for 2018-19 T2 15″ MacBook Pros.
Update 05/24/19 9:00AM: I have updated this article to include BuildVersion info and Apple Download Links.I will continue to add more information when I find it.
The MacBook Pro Supplemental Update is specifically targeted at 15″ 2018 & 2019 T2 MacBook Pros with 10.14.5. The update does NOT show up as available for 10.14.4 and lower OS versions. The update weighs in at 946.8mb.
UPDATE: After the update is installed the BuildVersion number will be (18F203). BridgeOS will also be updated and listed as 16.16.5200.0.0,0.
2018 T2 15″ MacBook Pro Supplemental Update
This update is only available for boardID’s Mac-937A206F2EE63C01 MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018) & Mac-1E7E29AD0135F9BC MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018) with a Vega ATI Graphics card. Looks like the 2019 models share the same boardID’s.

Apple also released a new 10.14.5 macOS Installer.app, the BuildVersion is (18F203).
UPDATE: The (18F203) Install macOS Mojave .app installer is so far seems to be for 2018 15″ T2’s. I have gone through the boardID’s of 10.14.4 install.app and 10.14.5 18F203 and found no new board id’s that would identify the new 2019 MacBook Pros.
10.14.5 (18F203)
This update weighs in at 6.51gb and has a Product ID number of 041-64745. You will be only able to download this installer if you are using a 2018 or 2019 15″ T2 MacBook Pro.
I ran some more tests trying to download the Install macOS Mojave.app (18F203). It seems you have to be on a 2018 15″ MacBook Pro to get the download. To get it from the App store you have to be on 10.14.5 and on a 2018-19 15″ T2. If you are on any anything else and you are get the (18F132) BuildVersion. For installinstallmacos.py you have to be on a 2018 15″ T2 but can be on an OS lower than 10.14.5. I tested this with a 2018 15″ T2 on 10.14.4 and was able to use installinstallmacos.py to down download the .app (18F203) installer. But the build failed on a 10.13.6 2018 15″ T2. Also the boardID list for (18F203) is exactly the same as (18F132), so it doesn’t seem to be a 2019 MacBook Pro Fork.

Is 10.14.5 (18F203) a hybrid fork?
Is the 10.14.5 (18F203) installer.app a hybrid fork or was it an error on the installer compatibility list ? Meaning I can only download this installer if I am on a 2018-19 15″ T2, but once downloaded I can install this version of the installer on any 10.14 compatible Mac.

New 8-Core 2019 MacBook Pro. 13″ & 15″ Touch Bar Models are new.
Apple in a surprise launch ahead of WWDC19, releases new 2019 MacBook Pros with a new revised keyboard design. Apple also expanded the Keyboard Service Program to add the 2018 MacBook Pro & Air.
In a move, most did not see coming a new 2019 MacBook Pros were released today. The big news is how the MacBook Pro is getting an 8-Core CPU for the first time. The real news you want to know about probably involves the keyboard. Was it redesigned? Has the mechanism changed? We know one answer was confirmed by Apple though TheLoop.
Another change in the newest MacBook Pro computers is with the keyboard. While Apple says the vast majority of its customers are happy with the keyboard, they do take customer complaints seriously, and work to fix any issues.
To address the problem, Apple said they changed the material in the keyboard’s butterfly mechanism that should substantially reduce issues that some users have seen.
Apple also told me that any problems with the butterfly keyboard on any of its MacBook Pros would be covered at no cost to the customer. The company has also taken steps to improve the repair process, shortening the time it takes to make repairs to the keyboards.
John Gruber @daringfireball.net dug in further when he spoke with Apple.
First, these new MacBook Pros still have the third-generation butterfly-switch keyboard that debuted with last July’s updated MacBook Pros. But Apple has changed the mechanism under the hood, using a new material for at least one of the components in these switches. The purpose of this change is specifically to increase the reliability of the keyboards. Apple emphasized to me their usual line that the “vast majority” of users have no problem with these keyboards, but they acknowledge that some users do and they take it very seriously.
2017 MacBook Pros with 3rd Gen Keyboard can get new revised replacement.

According to The Verge, some existing MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models that experience keyboard failures will have their keyboards replaced with the new 2019 keyboard that Apple has developed. Unfortunately, only MacBooks with the third-generation butterfly keyboard can get the updated 2019 keyboard, which includes the 2018 MacBook Pro and the 2018 MacBook Air.

Forked version of macOS Mojave 10.14 ?
You can almost bet 100% that the new 2019 MacBook Pros will have a forked build of 10.14 on it. Checking Apple’s catalog nothing has shown up yet. I will update when I have more info.
